This January 29 marks the start of a new year on the Chinese lunar calendar. It is referred to as the year of the Dog, where 12 animals are designated through a 12 year cycle. At St Mary’s we will celebrate the Chinese New Year on the following Sunday February 5 with a special breakfast after the Divine Liturgy to benefit the Chinese Translation Project.

The Chinese Translation Project has thus far completed translation of the daily readings including lives of saints, hymns, reflection, contemplation and homilies for January through May from the Prologue from Ochrid, originally compiled by St Nikolai of Zica. We are projecting the completion of the translation by the end of year 2006. See http://prologue.orthodox.cn for more information.

Last year’s Chinese New Year Buffet was a marked success in raising $1099 which helped meet the $3000 matching grant from the Order of St Ignatius. At the end of 2006 we will once again petition the Order for a grant renewal to pursue publication of this edifying devotional material with the assistance of the funds raised through this Chinese New year breakfast.

Please RSVP with the number of people attending so we know how much food to prepare and any diet restrictions. This year we will be ordering from Chinatown for simplicity.
