Chinese New Year Buffet to benefit Translation Project of Prologue

Due to the inclement weather report for this weekend, the Chinese New Year Buffet will be postponed to Sunday, January 30, after Divine Liturgy and the Annual Parish Meeting.

A Chinese New Year Buffet will be held on Sunday, January 30 after Divine Liturgy. All proceeds will go towards the Chinese Translation Project of the Prologue from Ochrid, a compilation of the lives of saints and other devotional material for every day of
the liturgical year to provide spiritual nourishment for our brothers and sisters in China.

Chinese New Year in 2005 falls on February 9, which begins the lunar year of the Rooster. Traditionally, businesses were closed for a week and homes were swept beforehand and decorated in red signifying joy and prosperity. Relatives visits one another, exchanging oranges signifying wealth, and red packets of money are given to children by married couples, demonstrating the importance of the family unit in society.

In the same spirit, join us in this celebratory buffet as one family in Christ. There is no minimum donation. Just make your checks payable to "Chinese Translation Project / St. Mary's Church" if you wish to receive a tax deductible receipt. Red Chinese envelopes will be provided for you to put your donations in to give when you enter the church hall. The Order of St Ignatius of Antioch will match dollar for dollar up to $3000 of all donations raised.

In order to prepare enough food, RSVP with number of guests attending to Nelson Mitrophan Chin by Wednesday January 26 at mitrophan@orthodox.cn. Take out boxes will be provided for those who can't stay for the whole buffet.
